Reception 2019 - 2020

Miss Egerton

Welcome to Reception

Welcome to the start of a wonderful and exciting adventure as your child starts school.  Both myself, Mrs Byrne and Mrs Rowley are looking forward to getting to know you and welcoming your child into our family here at Whirley Primary School.

Each day, please send your child with a small, named snack that they can eat at morning play time, along with a water bottle that they will have access to throughout the day. School lunch menus will be sent out throughout the year as choices change. Please choose a dinner button in the morning from outside the classroom. This will tell us what your child will have to eat that day.

We will begin the half term with a story called Pete the Cat Rocking in our school shoes. There will be lots of singing, dancing, building, drawing and acting in our school shoes! We will then will move onto our topic People Who Help Us. Have a look at the attached planning for more information. We are looking forward to welcoming a member of the fire service into our class as well as a member of the police force!

As the children settle into their new routine, we will be introducing a series of exciting opportunities that will be readily available each and everyday for the children.  These include;

Self-registration – the children will find their photos to begin with and gradually move onto tracing their name.

Rainbow Challenges - children can develop a love for learning and embark upon exciting self-initiated learning challenges - collecting rainbow award sticks which lead to house points.

Mud Kitchen- please provide named wellies that can stay in school throughout the year so your child can access this wonderful learning opportunity.

As always I am looking forward to working together to ensure that your child continues to flourish & reach their full potential.  Rest assured that myself and the team are always on hand to answer any questions, or simply to provide that reassurance you may need.

Things to remember...........

Phonics Pack- really useful resource to support the teaching of phonics at home.

Reading books are changed each week, on the same day. Please record in the homework diary each time your child reads. If books haven’t been read, we will not change them. Please, please aim to read every day with your child. It is the biggest and most valuable thing you can do to support their academic development at this stage.

The children are also allocated a house group. Red Birtles team, Yellow Chelford team, Blue Henbury team and finally Green Alderley team. Siblings throughout the school will be in the same house. Children work collectively throughout the week to earn house points for good effort, kindness to others etc.  The winning house at the end of each week will be announced in assembly which is every so eciting! A running total is also kept with the final house winners getting the trophy!

Celebration Assembly- every Friday. Bring in any awards your child has achieved outside of school, it is lovely to acknowledge such wonderful achievements.

Parent Helpers- parents and grandparents are always HUGELY appreciated here in Reception. If you’d like to come in and help on an ad-hoc basic or routinely for as little or long as you want please see me.

Thank you for your continued support.
