Reception 2020 - 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are ready for a busy second half term in Reception! We will begin the half term by learning all about Bonfire Night and Guy Fawkes. Then, we will move onto our main topic which is - ‘Autumn’. We have some lovely stories to share with the children which you will be able to see on our planning map. We will also be looking for signs of seasonal change on our weekly welly walks as well as lots of exploration in our outdoor area.

Towards the end of this half term we will move onto all things Christmas! We will have an elves workshop in our classroom where the children can practise their wrapping skills and writing on gift tags. We will also be preparing for our Nativity. The children will hopefully be coming home singing lots of lovely songs as we begin to practise.

The children are now up and running with their reading and phonics homework. Thank you for your support with this. Please aim to read with your child every day, re-reading the books we send home is hugely beneficial in helping them develop their tricky word recognition as well as them gaining confidence and fluency. The word boxes alongside this are extremely helpful to embed word recognition, and useful for us to continually assess each child’s high frequency word recognition.

Most of the children are now able to write their first name, or trace over it, beginning every letter on the line and forming it correctly. Our self-registration will now incorporate the practise of this.

As always, please send your child with a named snack that they can eat during morning play time, along with a water bottle that they will have access to throughout the day. School lunch menus will be sent out throughout the year as choices change. Choosing the dinner buttons in the morning is running smoothly, thank you for your support with this system.

We are looking forward to the next half term and the adventures, successes and experiences it will bring. We will ensure that your child continues to flourish and reach their full potential.  Rest assured that we are always on hand to answer any questions, or simply to provide any reassurance you may need.

Things to remember...........

Phonics Pack- useful resource to support the teaching of phonics at home, this is yours to keep and use at home with your child.

Reading books are changed each week, on the same day. Please record in the homework diary each time your child reads. If books haven’t been read, we will not change them. Please, aim to read and go through the word box every day with your child, it is the most valuable thing you can do, to support their academic development at this stage.

Celebration Assembly- every Friday. Children can bring in any awards they have achieved outside of school, it is lovely to acknowledge such wonderful achievements. Although we realise not as many children are able to participate in activities such as Rainbows/Beavers and swimming at the moment.

Thank you for your continued support.
