Home Learning Activities W/C Monday 13th July

 Hello Year 1 :)

I cannot believe it is our last week in Year 1. This is not how I thought Year 1 would be, or how it would end. But what a fantastic time we have had both at school and at home! You have impressed me every single week, with your enthusiasm towards your learning, your continued resilience and your abilities to make me smile every single day!

Keep up the hardwork for one final week - let's keep getting lots of dojo points added to our accounts smiley

As some children are now back at school, the home learning will differ very slightly.

There will always be 4 Maths and 4 English lessons, as these will be taught in school. However, as school is not open on a Friday, I will be adding an optional Maths and English activity for the Friday which may be unrelated to what has been taught in school. This is so that children who are in school can access this at home on Friday if they wish.

For the afternoons, I will also send out what we will be doing in school. You can choose to pick an activity to focus on, or have a go at them all!

This week I would like you to download:

- Lesson 1: Find half of objects

- Lesson 2: Find half of quantities

- Lesson 3: Find a quarter of objects

- Lesson 4:  Find a quarter of quantities

(Each lesson comes with a teaching powerpoint which can be used to go through with your child before having a go at the worksheet)

Below are some fantastic websites that you may find helpful:

Summer 2020

Reading: Children will be given a set day to change their reading book, this will either be a Monday, Tuesday or a Friday and this will be the same day all year wherever possible. It is really important that children are reading regularly at home (daily if possible), for approximately 10- 15 minutes. It would also be very beneficial to your child if when reading, you could ask them some questions about their book, to see if they have understood what they have just read. Please could I also ask you to sign your child’s home –school diary when you listen to your children read and when they have completed their book? It would be really helpful if you can make sure your child's reading folder is in school every day. All children will complete guided reading in a small group with a teacher each week.

Spelling: Spellings will be given out on a Thursday and the children will then complete a spelling quiz the following Thursday in which they will be tested on their High Frequency Words (HFW). These are the most commonly used words when writing therefore it is key that the children can spell these correctly from an early age. Spellings will be sent home on an ‘autumn term one spelling grid’ and can be practised using the ‘Look, cover, write, check’ method. Please encourage correct letter formation and high quality work from your child when you are practising with them.

Homework: During the first term in Year 1, my main focus is for the children to practise their reading and spellings to ensure they are becoming more confident. I will look to send out a small amount of more formal homework in the spring term.

P.E:  The children should have their P.E kit in school all week as the day we go outside for P.E will often vary dependent on the weather, although we will aim to go outside on a Friday for games and have our indoor gym lesson on a Wednesday. Please could the children have a pair of pumps for indoor P.E and a pair of outdoor trainers.

Water bottles:  The children are encouraged to bring a water bottle each day. Please only fill the bottle with water. Children will be asked to put drinks other than water back in their school bag to drink with their lunch as they have access to the water fountain during the day.

If you ever have any questions, worries or concerns please don't hesitate to come and speak with me and I will be more than happy to help!
