Home Learning Activities

Hello Year 1!

I hope you are all staying safe and looking after yourselves 😊

You should hopefully have been able to complete most of the activities in the packs that were sent home when school closed. If you haven’t quiet finished these yet, don’t worry, you can work through these during the coming weeks, at your own time.

I have made a folder called ‘Easter Pack’ that you will be able to find at the bottom of the page under 'Files to Download'. Some of these activities will need printing off, however I have made sure a couple of the activities such as ‘Spot the difference' and 'I Spy' can be done via  a screen, as I am aware that not everyone has access to a printer. These activities are easy, fun things that you can do with your family to keep yourselves busy during the Easter break.

From Monday 20th April, I will be uploading a range of learning activities for the coming week. I have tried to make sure most of these activities can be done without needing to print anything off as I understand that not everybody has access to a printer. Some of the maths activities on the ‘White Rose Hub Home Learning’ website will come with a worksheet, however these can be done without needing to be printed.

Daily reading is also something that would be very important to be keeping up with, for 10/15 minutes each day.  I posted on Class Dojo the link to Oxford Owl free reading books and the Audible free audio books for children to gain access to.

Handwriting practise would also be useful to continue working on our cursive letter formation.

Number bonds to 10 and 20 can be practised in a variety of different ways including games such as pairs.

Addition and Subtraction facts can also be practised using online games such as ‘Topmarks -Hit the Button’

Below are some fantastic websites that you may find helpful:

Summer 2020

Reading: Children will be given a set day to change their reading book, this will either be a Monday, Tuesday or a Friday and this will be the same day all year wherever possible. It is really important that children are reading regularly at home (daily if possible), for approximately 10- 15 minutes. It would also be very beneficial to your child if when reading, you could ask them some questions about their book, to see if they have understood what they have just read. Please could I also ask you to sign your child’s home –school diary when you listen to your children read and when they have completed their book? It would be really helpful if you can make sure your child's reading folder is in school every day. All children will complete guided reading in a small group with a teacher each week.

Spelling: Spellings will be given out on a Thursday and the children will then complete a spelling quiz the following Thursday in which they will be tested on their High Frequency Words (HFW). These are the most commonly used words when writing therefore it is key that the children can spell these correctly from an early age. Spellings will be sent home on an ‘autumn term one spelling grid’ and can be practised using the ‘Look, cover, write, check’ method. Please encourage correct letter formation and high quality work from your child when you are practising with them.

Homework: During the first term in Year 1, my main focus is for the children to practise their reading and spellings to ensure they are becoming more confident. I will look to send out a small amount of more formal homework in the spring term.

P.E:  The children should have their P.E kit in school all week as the day we go outside for P.E will often vary dependent on the weather, although we will aim to go outside on a Friday for games and have our indoor gym lesson on a Wednesday. Please could the children have a pair of pumps for indoor P.E and a pair of outdoor trainers.

Water bottles:  The children are encouraged to bring a water bottle each day. Please only fill the bottle with water. Children will be asked to put drinks other than water back in their school bag to drink with their lunch as they have access to the water fountain during the day.

If you ever have any questions, worries or concerns please don't hesitate to come and speak with me and I will be more than happy to help!
