Year 3 2020 - 2021

Mrs Dunford

Hello and welcome to Class 3’s page!

Our Teacher is Mrs Dunford and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Sykes.

Mr Salmon teaches us every Friday.

As a team, we encourage children with the school vision “Off to a flying start”. This is such an exciting year with so many opportunities to develop academically and personally.

Transitioning from Year 2 to Year 3 is a massive change for children and it is exciting and rewarding to see children on their way to becoming young adults as they move from the infants to the juniors.

In Year 3, we work very hard on a range of topics and activities across the curriculum. It is really important that we read at home, complete homework activities, and learn our spellings.

Below, you will find our ‘Topic Web’ which shows us what we are going to be learning about this term. Year 3 marks the beginning of KS2, a very exciting time! I am looking forward to getting to know you all and spending the next year with you.

As class teacher, I believe that children should always be asking questions and be encouraged to follow their interests so that they have ownership of their learning. That is why I have chosen this year to sponsor a guide dog puppy. We will be following our little class pet throughout their training and following their progress as they grow and transition into guide dogs.

If you ever have any concerns or need to speak to me, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you,

Mrs Dunford

Homework

Homework will be handed out on a Friday and should be handed back by the following Thursday.

Homework Details

General Children will receive one piece of Maths or one piece of English homework each week. Children will be provided with a green Homework book to complete their weekly work.

Following the success of the children submitting their home learning on Class Dojo, we have decided to continue using Class Dojo throughout the year to submit homework tasks. More details will be provided when we return back to school.

Maths It is recommended that children play on TT Rockstars weekly to encourage rapid recall of all timetables.

Spelling - Spelling patterns and keywords will be sent home on a Friday in preparation for an informal test the following week. The words will also be updated to this class page and on Spelling Shed - see the 'Spellings' link. We will be using 'Spelling Shed' as an interactive tool for children to practice their spellings in class, children will also need to go on this at home as part of their spelling homework.

Reading - For their reading homework, the children are expected to read for 15 – 20 minutes each day. We ask that parents monitor their child’s reading and acknowledge this by signing their reading records every week. Mrs Sykes and I will be checking the children’s reading records every week and will send them home with a book at the appropriate reading level. Reading a breadth of books/ leaflets/ comics for pleasure is also encouraged! Whenever possible please question them on the book they are reading, this would be beneficial to ensure they are fully comprehending what they are reading.

Your support with all homework and reading is very much appreciated so thank you in advance!

P.E

To help with logistics this term, the children should come to school wearing their P.E kit and a plain, dark coloured tracksuit on a day we have P.E. To make life less complicated, we will have two lessons in one day meaning the children can wear their usual school uniform the rest of the week. Our P.E day will be Friday
