Year 5 2019 - 2020

Mr Salmon

Monday 6th July 2020

Hi Year 5

Thank you for sending me all of your super work again this week. We now have 8,469 Dojo points, only 2 weeks left to reach our target of 10,000 - you can do it!

Well done for all of you practising your spellings especially those of you that managed to get in the Top 20. We just missed out on 1st place to Year 3 (well done to them).

Have a super week!!

Maths

Please use this link below to help you with your maths. It is called White Rose and we use it all the time in class. They have even put some videos to help you. Next to each video is the work sheets to complete, you don’t need to print them off. The questions get more difficult as you work through them (just like our mild, spicy and hot challenges – I normally cut them up and you stick them in your books at school). Use the video to help you, don’t worry if they get too hard, just do what you can. They also have the answers so you can mark your work yourself and have another go if you got any wrong.

Literacy - Firebird

I would like you to read the story and complete two activities each week. Use the resources to help you.

Activity 1 - Write a persuasive letter to the Chief Dungeon Guard.

Activity 2 - Learn and perform a poem.

Activity 3 - Write a descriptive poem.

Activity 5 - Write your own Traditional Tale.

Activity 6 - Choose an activity from the Topic Web.

Reading

Practise your reading everyday – maybe read to your brother or sister or help them to read by listening to them.

These websites have lots of eBooks and audio books that you can download and read and listen to:

 https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/

ask mum or dad to register (it’s free)

French

Use this website to help you with your French language, there is also an app that you may want to download for your tablet.

https://www.duolingo.com/

Select the French option and work your way through the activities. Remember to turn your sound up on your devise so you can hear the pronunciations and also repeat the words in your best French accent!

Bonne chance!

Science, History, Geography & Art

I have created some learning grids for these subjects. Each learning grids has lots of activities for you to choose from. I would like you to complete one activitiy each week from each subject. So, one from science, one from history, one from geography and one from art. By the end of each week you will have four completed activities (I know some activities may take you longer to complete- don't worry - you have time!)

I have tried to create activities that are fun, will keep you entertained and, of course, will help you with your learning. You could even get your family involved too.

Each activity has a points value - the more challenging the activity - the more points you achieve. Keep a total of your points and there will be prizes when we're back at school.

Science

Our new topic in science is – Living things and their habitats.

I love this topic! We will be learning all about different types of mammals, life cycles, the incredible work by Jane Goodall, the amazing David Attenborough, and the fascinating process called metamorphosis (big work eh!? Look it up).

Below is a learning grid, choose one activity a week, you can do them in any order you want. I need you to do one thing though please……two of the activities you need to do with an adult, this is because you will probably have some questions that you want to ask as you’re doing the activity, and it is really important that you have the correct answers.

The Mayan Civilisation

I have never taught this topic before, so I have been doing lots of learning too. I have really enjoyed learning all about this period of history and all about central and South America and I hope you do too.
